Fasti ecclesiæ scoticanæ; the succession of ministers
in the Church of Scotland from the reformation; "JAMES DUNDAS,
M.A. ; presented 1582 by James VI. 30th May 1582, holding also Lhanbryd from
1582 to 1600; on 21st Feb. 1605, he subscribed, with others, a letter to the
King from the Synod of Aberdeen, in favour of John Forbes, min. of Alford ;
was nominated constant Moderator of the Presb. of Forres by the
Assembly in 1606, that Presb. being ordered by the Privy Council, 17th Jan.
1607, to receive him as such within twenty-four hours after notice upon pain
of rebellion ; was a member of Assembly in 1586, 1587,
1598, 1606, and 1610. He was consecrated Bishop of Down and Connor in
Ireland, July 1612, and died at Newton, Co. Down, before 29th Oct. same
year. He married. and had issue James of Windiehills, in the parish [who
disponed that property on 20th June 1618, to his brother-in-law, Gavin
Dunbar, min. of this parish], and several daughters, one of whom marr. Gavin
Dunbar." |

James Dundas, chantor of Murray, for payment of 2500 merks as tocher with his daughter,
Margaret Dundas, contained in marriage contract, dated 25 March, 1609, between the said John Steill
and the said
Margaret Dundas; and
letters of inhibition following thereon, 7 August, 1610."

[Houstoun], to Mr James Dundas, chantor of Murray, for 2500 merks in
payment and satisfaction of marriage contract between the said John Steill
on the one part, and the said Mr James Dundas and
Margaret Dundas,
his daughter, on the other part, dated 25 March 1609 and registered Books of
Council and Session, 3 August 1610.

Johnne Dundas, servant to
Walter, Abbot of Kinloss, in 300 merks each that George Dunbar shall be

In The Montgomery Manuscripts, 1603-1706, there is reference to
Hu Dundas - "Probably a son of
James Dundas, who was appointed Bishop of Down and Connor in 1612, and who died soon afterwards in Newtownards, said to have wasted his Bishoprick by granting fee farm and other long leases at very small rents". See the Family History Archives at
